BACHELOR OF ARTS (B.A)
The Post Graduate Diploma in Education is a one year course which trains graduates who had pursued other areas of specialization and wish to pursue a professional career in education. It equips teachers and other educators with relevant skills to teach and manage education at various levels.
QUALIFICATIONS TO ENROLL FOR POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN EDUCATION (PGDE)
- Bachelors Degree ( B.A) from a accredited University with a minimum classification of Second Class Honours lower division.
- Atleast two teaching subjects. With a minimum of C+ in both of the subjects one is interested in.
COURSE DURATION
A Post graduate diploma programme lasts a minimum of nine (9) months for a full time student and a maximum of twenty four (24) months for a part-time student for the whole programme. The maximum duration may only be extended with prior approval by senate.
UNITS
Students take seventeen (17) compulsory course units, two (2) electives, Teaching Practice and a Research Project. The Research Project is done in the final semester and the topic for the Research Project is identified by the candidate in consultation with their supervisors, subject to the approval by the department.
EXAMINATIONS
Examinations consists of;
- Assignments, laboratory practical, fieldwork, industrial attachment and such other continuous assessment tests as required by the Department, School, and Institute concerned which shall constitute forty per cent (40%) of the total marks for each course.
- The final examinations, shall constitute sixty per cent (60%) of the total marks for each course.
- Seminars and courses which are of a practical nature shall be assessed entirely by continuous assessment.
GRADING SYSTEM OF POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN EDUCATION
75 % - 100% A (Excellent)
65-74% B (Good)
50-64% C (Average)
Below 50 % F (Fail)
SPECIAL EXAMINATIONS
- Special examinations will be offered to candidates who, due to circumstances acceptable to the University Senate, were unable to sit for the ordinary examinations.
- Special examinations shall be graded on the same guidelines as those for the ordinary examinations.
- Special examinations shall be held concurrently with the examinations unless otherwise specified by the University Senate.
RE- SIT EXAMINATIONS
- A candidate who fails twenty-five per cent (25%) or less of the total all courses in an academic year shall be required to do resit examinations in each paper failed.
- Candidates shall be awarded grade “C” (50%) in all courses passed at re-sit examination.
- Re-sit examination shall be taken once only.
DISCONTINUATION
- Failing more than twenty five percent (25%) of the total courses taken in an academic year.
- Failing a re-sit examination.
- Committing serious examination malpractice.
- Failing to register for and attend scheduled lectures for two (2) weeks or longer without the consent of the University Senate.
- Absconding research work for a maximum period of sixty (60) days or more.

Tuition fees for a PGDE program vary widely depending on the universities and mode of study. Scholarships or financial aid maybe available for eligible students. It varies from KSH.100,000 - KSH.250,000

- Mean grade C+ (plus) or its equivalent at KCSE.
- At least C+ (plus) and above in two teaching subjects of specialisation.
- Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE)
